Projects Overview
Here’s just a small sample of our Community Projects.
kalkaringi multi-purpose court
In 2018, with funding support from the Northern Territory Government and Aboriginal Benefits Account we constructed a new Multi-Purpose Court at Kalkaringi to support health and well-being of all community members.
national heritage listed wave Hill walk-off track
In 2016, in partnership with the University of Melbourne’s Bower Studio, we developed the Wave Hill Walk-off Track to keep the Gurindji legacy alive and create a new visitor experience to support regional tourism. The Track follows the footsteps of the iconic 1966 Walk-off beginning at Jinparrak (Old Wave Hill Station) and ending at the grave site of leader Vincent Lingiari. The series of pavilions along the Track won the 2017 Northern Territory Architecture Award and was featured in the Australian exhibition at the prestigious Venice Biennale in 2018.
freedom day festivals
We are the organising body for the annual Freedom Day Festival held each August to commemorate the 1966 Wave Hill Walk-off and birth of Aboriginal Land Rights. We welcome visitors each year in a celebration of arts, culture music and sports in what has grown into one of the largest remote community festivals in Australia.
